danIT Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Im looking for some kind sole to donate some web space to host the 2 EduGeek Moodle Themes, any chance?
kmount Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yeah, he was, not sure what's happened ... =/ DanIT; It might be worth signing up with someone like sf.net and taking advantage of their version control system (subversion), linked in webspace etc. - might be a little OTT at this time though!
Messa Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I am doing this :S We are sorting your problem as we speak dan. I've sent you an email Edit: we have moved to a new server and naturally had a few things to sort, your being sorted now dan if you would still like me to :S
kmount Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Was that why your site died the other day with no links working etc? New server feel any better?
Messa Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 The site 'died' the other day due to essential maintenance at the datacenter see: VeloxServ Communications - Announcements New server was planned anyways, from dual core to quad core with double the ram..
kmount Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Hm.. that doesn't stack up with the errors witnessed, main page was fine, all links threw a 404 (and yes, the server hostname was right.) Oh well, not to dwell, glad the new one feels better, onwards and upwards =)
Messa Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Are you talking about the edumoodle site throwing loads of errors? Onwards and upwards indeed
kmount Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Are you talking about the edumoodle site throwing loads of errors? Onwards and upwards indeed Nope, yours. See link here for discussion at the time.
Messa Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 This would not have been to do with the migration, as we did that yesterday. We didn't get any issues reported at this time, all i can do is apologise for the downtime. Free or not dan, if you have any problems tell me! :D 1
danIT Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Basically I had reports from Edugeek.net users that my site was unavailable: This was about 4pm 17th Jan 09, I didnt see this but other EduGeek users did. Everything was working fine until a post made on moodle.org, "Cant access your site or the download link" - 21st Jan 09 10.30am And again today: "If you click on your demo link you end up trying to install "Moodle" on your server!" My inital thoughts were that the site had been hijacked (badly) as the config.php files had been removed from the 3 Moodle installations. It wouldnt suprise me the way I have Moodle setup is not exactly the most secure, permissions are all over the place. But thats my fault! I tried to replace the config files (No big issue) but Moodle was throwing up errors about the Moodle database not being UTF8-Unicode, changing it to UTF8 didnt work. Think it was set to swedish??? Bit strange..... Contacted VeloxServ, responded quickly, got the problems sorted, I think recompiled Apache and were up and running again! I should also mention VeloxServ give me this webspace free of charge, Messa does a cracking job and has always done well by me. My site is not mission critical....I just wanted (in this thread) to find an alternative mirror for the zipped Moodle Themes. The Themes are very popular! Look: sloodle - Virtual Environment Learning System Im getting around 1500 to 1900 hits average per day. Wonder what that really means ????? Anyone got any thoughts on that? Little blip, but its all over now....... I'll say this again, I get this excellent (1 blip in 4 months) service for free! Thanks! 2
EduTech Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) Good Post DanIT, I think craig is doing an excellent job, i have been talking to him for about a month or 2 now regarding me transfering all my website's from my current server over to craigs. this is because before i took over the managment of these sites they were done by a guy who liked to use US servers. Anyhow, myself and craig have been working together in the planning and preperation of the transfer and he has helped me allot, and his advice has been great. There are about 80 sites in total, and 10 sites that are secure sites so its a big job. this will be happening around the 1st of February and i have no doubt in my mind the transfer to craig will go smoothly. A bit of topic i know, but i just wanted to point out that his service is fantastic especially for a young company. James. Edited January 21, 2009 by EduTech Spelling 1

Good luck with that! Without wanting to turn this thread into a VeloxServ advertisement, I've also found Craig to be very helpful. 1
Trojan Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I would just like to point out that I have never had any problems with craig either and Velox always provide excellent services for us. Top Job for a new Startup. 1
Messa Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Thanks for all the positive comments! I think dan having another mirror for the files would be excellent though, it's proving very successful as bandwidth usage is going up and up every month! Excellent work dan!
