Decent 1TB PATA hard disk?

Hello!

 

I'm looking to expand storage in one of our Apple XServe RAIDs. I understand that these can utilise a standard hard disk in their Apple caddies to save the expense of buying an 'Apple' drive and caddy in one. The RAID takes IDE / Parallel ATA drives in it's slots. I'm trying to track down some 1TB PATA drives but am finding this a bit of a challenge. The Apple marked drives are Hitachi Deskstar units so I'd be keen to find these in a 1TB form.

 

Do you know of where I can get a 1TB IDE drive these days?

may be your best option to convert the legacy ide interface on the SAN to SATA so that you can use modern disks, these should work fine depending on the hard drive mounting space as they are a direct hardware interface and require no drivers. From what I have found your other options will probably be expencive, second hand or require buying it from the past:

Sorry synack XSERVE Xraids have a caddy that has its own funky hotswappable interface at the back and no room what so ever in the caddy to add a converter.

 

iSteve good luck on the drives, Thursday was a bloody nightmare trying to find 4x to replace my 2 dead drives for my xraid.

I have 2 spares here that I was looking at. Yes- there's no way to do any conversion in them. I've emailed our supplier to see about spares / drives or even 'legit' ADMs.

 

Future expansion could be an issue

Best your gonna get in PATA is a 750Gb, I'd recommend the Seagate's
