HT's got a Blackberry - please help

Please can you help me understand the HT's new Blackberry.

 

We have a small vanilla server 2003 network here - we use RM easyMail and do not have exchange. Most people use it online, a few send/receive through Outlook at school.

 

The HT has presented me with a Blackberry Curve 8310 on contract to Orange and says "It won't do email. It says to contact my administrator" *quiet groan*

 

I have been into email setup on the Blackberry, but it will only give me the option of a 'Blackberry enterprise server setup' or 'skip email setup'

 

There's no way we'll have a Blackberry server here, but there must be another way of doing email, even if it's forwarding her school email account to a Blackberry email address. Trouble is, I can't work out how

When the Head brought the Orange contract, she should have got it as a data contract.

 

Then you can use BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) to setup a Blackberry email address, then you would need to setup the school email to be forwarded to that address.

 

Information you need to enter on the device should be in the documentation she got with the package, or from Orange CS.

 

Presuming she ordered the correct package of course!!

I wish there was something in plain speak in the lengthy pdf manual or obvious on the website to explain it.

 

I shall return it to her now!

These are a pain in the butt. Our HT has got one. It's alright now but setting it up was a bit of a nightmare. I messed about with the settings for ages before contacting Orange only to find that they hadn't done various thing their end. They had to set up and send some posts or something. (Sorry can't remember exactly what it was now, it was a while ago).

Then there was something else they hadn't done. I think it all took about a fortnight to get right in the end.

I think I would first check with Orange, a) to make sure that your HT has the right package, as suggested before. and b) that everything has been completed their end.

 

The Blackberry manuals are not a lot of use.

Similar to what I have done here on 02 and vodafone.

 

We use FirstClass as our mailserver and I forward any mail sent to school addresses to the Blackberry e-mail account using a rule.

 

This works for me, my technician, school manager and head teacher and everybody is happy.
