adamyoung Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Whats the best way to connect our older machines to Citrix MetaFrame. We currently only use the MetaFrame online interface to give our students 'School@Home' access, but would like to connect some of our ageing machines to it also. Is there a quick app that you can install straight onto a formatted disk that would allow you to connect? How'd everyone doing it?
ChrisH Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Thinstation is a popular choice and there is a floppy image in this post to do it for you
Geoff Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 There's no need for Thinstation if your machines can PXE boot by themselves of course. It's well worth doing if possible. Removing the hard drive cuts down on the heat and power of the machines and they last longer as there's no moving parts.
adamyoung Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 I've tried using thinstation live cd but it keeps saying i havent put the boot floppy in, downloaded several times and on different machines Anyone come across a similar problem?
ChrisH Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 I should have said that the image I posted is just meant to get an old non PXE complianent machine to PXE boot and isnt actually thinstation. You have to setup your TFTP server and put the appropriate thin station or which ever thin client distro you use with the appropriate configuration.
Ric_ Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 @adamyoung: Check out the materials from my talk at the conference. There is a page of instructions on how to set up a baisc install of THinstation in about 10mins. Just go to http://www.edugeekconference.net
adamyoung Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 Struggling with thinstation/pxes. Is it possible to install a small linux distro that only loads Citrix ICA?
ChrisH Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Those 2 you have mentioned are the more popular tools of choice for what you are describing. What problems are you having?
Uraken Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 morning all, adamyoung did you get anywhere with a linux distro and ica client i would like to implement the same thing here and like you can't fathom out thin station.
