All Programs list in Start Menu

This is more of a 2k3 question.

I can disable the "All Programs" list from the user Start Menu in GPO but is there a way of just block some of the menu items from appearing in the list? TIA

You could redirect the start menu to a shared one on the server, that way having total control over what appears.

 

And I assume you mean on clients connecting to the server, not the server itself...

I hide stuff from the kids by putting a hidden folder in their mandatory profile with the same name as the folder I want to hide.

 

Although I do this with XP.

I take it you mean redirect the Start Menu in GPO? I have redirected Desktop and My Documents but I cannot get Start Menu to work! Something not right with my setup...

The redirect Desktop and My Document work fine So I've got the method right but the redirect Start Menu doesn't do anything on the clicent. I presume I place shortcuts in a folder and redirect in GPO!

Yeah, you might need to look at an exisiting one to get the layout right.

permissions ok. It seems to be picking the local Start Menu list instead of the redirected menu! I have even deleted all the local profiles to force a workstation to pick up the new menu. I'll keep looking

I think theres a GP setting to stop it doing that.

 

Also, if its a user setting being applied to a machine OU you'll need to enable loopback processing

GP in Admin Templates>Start Menu and Taskbar. Policy is Remove common program groups from start menu
