Some of the staff want to start using this however although the streaming works the download manager just says its trying to connect but never does is there a way of giving it our proxy server details to allow for the download?

Why do you need the download version?

The downloading method uses some kind of strange peer to peer system which means you need to allow all sorts from everywhere.

With the streaming system, it just works.

True I think he wants to keep them for a while then play them during a specific set of lessons within the 30 day limit of iplayer of course.

Had weird problems with iPlayer not connecting for Radio last week... which were fixed when I stopped RealPlayer going to look for updates. I still don't know why this affectedPlayer, but it happened on too many machines for it to be a coincidence. TV programmes were working fine through iPlayer

New beta version, released today, has no peer-to-peer. Not 100% there yet, and not much content at least today, but please give it a whirl... and let me know how you get on.

PS. Need to sign up for iPlayer Labs to get it.

I've got the labs version running, it using Adobe Air (whatever that is) but not the Kontiki thing that leaches bandwidth and causes windows to crash (more). Actually seems pretty decent to use.

AFAIK iPlayer and 4OD use a service called "KService" and an executable "KHost.exe".

They used to push data out to other clients regardless of whether the host was running or not, the only way to stop it is to kill the service.

iPlayer has an option to stop this, but I'm unsure whether 4OD does. Obviously if it is, or this option isn't turned on (is not by default) then your internet line will taking a hit.

The new Air version if it isn't P2P might be worth a look.

iPlayer is available to stream but it is blocked by the grid to download.

Only found this out when testing on a laptop.
