Longing for Pandora

Did anyone else use Pandora before it was restricted to the UK about a year ago?

 

I was IN LOVE with it, used it for everything, and I don't think I'm the only one who wants it back in the UK

 

Anyone heard any news on if it's returning to the UK?

Or if there is a naughty way of getting?

they have plans to return, but are still refusing to pay the royalties.

 

I have switched to last.fm and am fairly happy with the results....

Last.fm is good, but I must admit I preferred Pandora. Anyone know any good US based proxy servers? (or should I ask the kids bypassing our proxy?)

your all right in saying last.fm is good, but its not as good as pandora. It only blocks songs, not artists. Pandora seemed to stop playing artists I hated.

 

I think i've forgotten my Pandora login now but i'm sure it'll come to me as soon as I see the login screen.

 

how does it know people are from the UK, whats the difference between USA IP and UK IP?

If you get yourself a shell account on a server in the states you can set up an ssh tunnel for your Pandora connection. That will make your IP address (which is how they know your location) appear to be in the US. It works quite well, er... I imagine

On a Linux box you can do some jiggery-pokery with iptables and make it completely transparent, but that's a bit more involved.

pandora was awesome, never much liked last.fm for listening. now i use deezer, which is nearly as good as pandora, u can bookmark albums and it has themed radio stations and smart radios and it's got a pretty huge selection, foreign stuff as well. the only real downside is, periodically albums become unavailable to listen to although u can get access to tracks thru the smart radios.

I think I compare all Internet Radio sites to Pandora now so I don't like them as much as I should

I found Pandora to be particularly good at analyzing your taste in music and then suggesting similar artists you may also enjoy. I haven't yet found anything to match it.

 

Discovered a few good artists thanks to Pandora - Toad the Wet Sprocket, Counting Crows, Better than Ezra, Collective Soul, and probably more besides.

Pandora was the daddy. Last.fm is all right but ahs taken ages to get to realise any kind of my taste. Pandora just seemed to work. All though it did seem to have a tendancy to fall into country and western!

No but the ip addresses that belong to the uk are known and blocked by pandora therefore if you make your ip address tunnel to an american one it will work.

different address ranges, you can get some idea here:

block a country, block by ip address, deny access by country

so a static IP address of your router / modem between the ranges of a US country wouldnt work?

You can't just steal someones ip address or even just set your router to an ip address and expect it to work.

no because your router would end up unable to see/talk/connect to your internet providers internal network.
