Hightower Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I've got quite a few completed projects (from uni projects and work projects) and I'm sick of them lying around so I have decided to create a website to put them all on. I'm using Joomla (latest release 1.5.8 i think) and was wondering what would be the best component to install for managing them. I don't want any complex project management stuff, just an easy way to have a small sub-site for each project that can contain documentation and downloads etc. Thanks,
plexer Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Why not something like media wiki instead? Ben
Hightower Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Just had a play with it - don't like it. There are many sites that use Joomla for this kind of thing I just don't know what extras they have installed. For example when you download extensions for Joomla a lot of the sites hosting the download have this kind of thing.
CyberNerd Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 we have a subversion site for projects http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subversion_(software)
Ric_ Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 What is your intention for the projects? Will you open them up as open source solutions for people to build upon? Will you sell the software? So many choices!
Hightower Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Primarily just a nice place to keep them, but yes also a place where people can download and use my finished projects. Possibly so people can help work on others but not all of them - I want that to be my choice.
Butuz Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Joomla! Extensions Directory - Project & Task Management Butuz
Hightower Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 Joomla! Extensions Directory - Project & Task Management Butuz Thanks, but I've looked there and they all look overly complicated - wanting to control stuff I don't want it to control or having features that I don't want. I know I'm being very picky but I just want something simple. It probably won't even be classed as a project management component - probably a download component or something. Don't spend your time looking for it guys - I just thought I'd ask on the off chance that someone here was already using a similar system.
CyberNerd Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 We use Ganttproject for project management, when I previously suggested SVN I figured you wanted to manage changes in code. GanttProject: Home
webman Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Try Drupal. It might have a module that will do what you want or you can create custom content types that could do what you're after.
