Recommendations for test server hardware...

Looking initially to do a test install and let users play with Windows SharePoint Services and after that could use the server to test install other software we get asked to put on the system.

Ramesys usually spec. and build up all our production servers so I don't normally get involved so any help would be appreciated.

Regards.

We're going to virtualise our current print server box, and reuse the box for Sharepoint playing (probably)

It's a boggo P4/HT 3Ghz / 512mb rig, in a rack case that we inherited.

It will only be experimental, mind. I think the VM print server should fair kick bum..

If your only going to use it as a test server with WSS you dont need anything more than a normal desktop with 1GB of RAM.

It all depends on the number of concurrent users.

another thing worth thinking about is if you want to test MOSS 2007 you will require 1024MB - The install will error if you have anything less so make sure you aren't using shared memory if you have 1GB in the box
