ATM I'm playing Alice: Madness Returns, non-steam. [but, that has no online.]

 

The only steam games I have with multiplayer are Saints Row 3 and Tomb Raider.

New to Steam? Wait for the summer sale, your library collection will soon grow. Sounds like you don't have DOTA2 either. Want a copy? ;)

yes and no...the first 3 people that added me got either serious sam 3, saints row 3, or elder scrolls oblivion GOTY edition (which includes all expansions)...now I am on to shipping out the dota2 passes :p

 

Got the first two in Steam, got a classic "hard copy" of Oblivion. Awesome game.

Typically, I prefer boxed copies. [if Steam go bust, I can still play my games... with a crack.]

I guess it depends on how many people turn up. Games like left4dead are only good for 4 people max.

Highly unlikely to happen with Steam/Valve being the biggest games content delivery network. Besides you get keys with the games you buy and they would be compatable with other systems, boxed copies will eventually fade out like CD's and CDNs are the future. Plus the CD keys from your boxed game will work in steam.

Doesn't matter. It can still happen.

 

And until internet is 100% free [or really REALLY cheap], super-fast and guaranteed not to fail... Digital only won't happen.

 

I don't know why people are pushing for this... Do you like NOT owning things you've paid for? [i sound like such an old man... Back in my day, you owned the games you bought.]

You don't OWN games, what you have is a licence to play that game and you just happen to have the media on DVD. I've just got mine on steam. If I wanted to I could aquire the game disk and then use my genuine CD key to then play the game.

 

Anyway lets get back to topic. Looking at peoples steam profiles and the games they have there aren't many that we all have in common that can be played on mass.

There's always TF2. 'Tis free, so nobody is going to be priced out.

Yeah I'd be up for that. I've not played it in a while but when I do its always chaotic fun. :D

 

I haven't played it ever. I'm not a massive fan of first-person...

I'm terrible at TF2 but I'd still play it for a laugh, and if there was enough demand for a game I haven't got I'd happily buy it to join in :)

 

I got Rome Total War last night for a quid, I used to love that game! :D (Unfortunately I'd lost the original CD I had through 3 different house moves, grr)

TF2 sounds good. Likewise, not played in ages but I'm up for it.

L4D2 is always great fun co-op with 4, or you can play Vrs with 8 people. :)

Another reason with digital delivery is awesome. ;)

Indeed, though I do see where @X-13 is coming from that it was always a nice feeing to have the box, cd & book (that folded out to be a map or poster that you'd blu-tac to the wall and ruin the paint!) as it did feel like 'YOURS.'

 

'Tis why I cry at night when I remember the moment all of my old consoles + original packaged games were all sold :( (not by my choice >.< EVIL PARENTS *calls childline*)

 

Mind you I noticed this when I opened my copy of Forza Horizon, the first thing I said to myself was "Oh, there's no book.."

Aye, I cry myself to sleep at night over the fact, in teh foochar, the yoof of tomorrow won't get to enjoy classic games because of online activation servers being taken down. :(

I had the same with Alice. Nice disk, lovely cover art... Digital manual. The only paper in there was a "how to install" guide, where 75% of it was irrelevant. [How to install from 3-rd party code distribution... I have the [censored] disk!]

It is an increasingly worrying factor that it'll all end up being dodgy DRM and various activation fees. I've always thought that it's a nice touch to keep old systems/games/whatever that were the bees knees in our day, that way you can still keep the kid in you and show it off to the generations below. I was playing Goldeneye 007 (N64.. yes emulated :( I'm waiting for the funds to collect my old consoles/games again) and my brother was amazed by it when he saw it. Just goes to show that old isn't necessarily dated/rubbish.

 

Yeah, the whole digital manual thing is pants. They seem to forget CDs still exist, I liked having shelves filled with game boxes and posters on the wall :p that way you could impress all your friends with how many games you had. There's just not that much oomph to it when showing your steam library list on a computer screen..

 

RTW... ah the days me and friends used to stay up til 4am battling it out.

 

Good times.

 

<3 MTW2 more though :D

 

A combination of RTW and Civ4 online battles was always the standard way of living back in the old days :p and then before that was the Age of Empires II and hoping your dial-up connection would allow for a 5 minute multiplayer session or having all your mates round for a LAN party.

 

Ahh LAN Parties.. I miss those :(
