dfs replication between 2003 and 2003 r2

we have 2 dell storage servers.

one has 2003 and the other has 2003 r2.

the home directories are stored on the 2003 machine.

 

I want to replicate the home areas to the 2nd server.

 

Obviously the 1st server is going to use FRS and the 2nd uses the new engine dfsr.

 

they won't talk to each other.

 

I've been told that the r2 version still has the older system.

 

How can i tell r2 server to use frs rather than the new dfsr?

I know this is not the answer to the question but I tried this at a previous school and did manage to get it to work and it worked great for a few months. Then for some reason the replication between the servers was not quickly enough and I started to get the problem that a student would save work onto a server and move across the school to another classroom and connect to the other server for my documents. Because the replication was not quick enough they could not find the piece of work.

 

What we eventually had to do was to put all the lover school onto one server and higher school and teachers onto another.

 

Please be careful doing this as you could be in for w world of pain.

the main reason i want to replicate is not for load balancing, but more redunancy. So when server "A" fails the users can still acess their work from server "B"

Agreed Education licensing is peanuts. It's not worth the headache not to.
