Permissions issue

There is a big shared IDE drive on our curriculum server that staff can use to store videos, images etc. It's an NTFS drive. For some reason, certain files cannot be accessed even as administrator with all rights. However, if I restore the backup to a FAT media and then copy it back to its original location it's fine.

Have you checked who has ownership of the files?

Becoming the owner then re-applying permissions should do the trick. The reason it works with FAT, is because permissions cannot be set for FAT or FAT32.

Odd, I'd checked ownership and it seemed ok. I've now changed the owner and re-applied permissions and it's sorted. Thanks.
