How do I stop XP asking questions

I've just got a new teacher laptop with XP pre-loaded and having configured it with my standard batch files in all users/startup, it keeps asking if its OK to run the files everytime the computer starts.

 

I never update my old computers so I'm assuming this is a new feature to make XP more secure (A la vista)

 

Could someone please tell me where to switch it off or add my scritps to a whitelist somewhere

add the location of the scripts into the trusted sites. This is a standard security issue with XP designed to stop batch files from automatically running without awareness

Do you mean in IE or somewhere else?

 

 

These are just .exes and .bats in allusers startup folder

Its ok - i found this which cures it

Run gpedit.msc, and go to Local Computer Policy->User
Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows
Components->Attachment Manager and enable "Default risk level for file
attachments", and then enable "Inclusion list for low risk file types"
and add to this list the file extensions that you want to open without
triggering this.

If you going to use Windows then -

 

Different hacks that are quite easily done if the OS is not patched (feck storing useful info on a windows box! )

The framework - I had a quick play with it a while back and it show hows to execute code using remote exploits, so you could say run some VNC like code on a remote machine and take control of it. That was only one exploit!

 

Here I have around 350 boxes with SP1 on, and all the rest are usually SP2. They havent had any of the updates since then so its far from perfect and SP3 does seem to slow things down even more (make XP step closer to Vista).

 

Havent had time to do updates, tryed the WSUS route but staff/pupils cannot turn machines off properly (end up rebuilding when switched off during update).

 

Hopefully our LEA ISA server/app-firewall helps our network!

 

 

Otherwise I only worry about the servers! (2 are linux anyway )

i have found after installing sp3, and certainly building a new machine from a slipstreamed sp3 cd, that machines actually run ( boot anyway ) much faster. i thought sp3 would be horrendous, but other than a problem wit a hp printer it has worked well so far,

 

i'm as shocked as ever !

Havent sone proper test as I also done and upgrade to AVG8 at the same time, going from the 7 series.

 

Did have one laptop runnin v slow after an sp3 and avg8 install. Uninstalled back to sp2 and is considerably faster now.

 

Might be a RAM thing as most ms stuff likes lots. Maybe it is faster but bit more memory hungry but as said havent checked.
