CMS im alittle behind the times

Im fairly webpage design/development literate, designed a number fo sites and currently in the process of creating a school website, little front end to the school while we get exhange, share point, and class server up and running.

 

IVe been looking at a number of CMS's plone, mambo etc...all seem very nice liike the look of wordpress too. But does anyone have any links to tutorials or screencast/podcast about using the systems. I can set them up easily enough but its the rest i have problems with setting up pages and such like?

 

Anyone give me any pointer?

Hi Dan, as each CMS varies in how to add and edit and arrange content, there isn't a one-guide-fits-all solution. The best thing to do would be to try out live demos of ones you're interested in at OpenSourceCMS, see how you like it, and then visit the homepage of the individual CMS or integrated help links (if available) as to how to edit content.

As webman says there are alot of good quality free CMS packages available.

 

I would personally recommend both Joomla! and Mambo as excellent feature packed suites. Both of these have good third party components and modules which are fairly easy to setup. You should not have a problem creating pages, dynamic content or RSS.

 

However, it all depends on what you need.

Moodle also seems to be the CMS od choice for mny too. Please remember that it has to be BECTA approved and meet certain criteria to be 'officially' recognised as an educational approved CMS. Out of all the open source CMS systems it is only Moodle which currently meets these criteria (IIRC).

Isn't Moodle a VLE though and that is what it is educationally approved? Didn't know CMS's had to be approved as well.
