Trying to find who said this quote:-

 

"How do you know where your going if you don't know where you have been" sure I have seen it credited to Tony Robinson when he was talking about teaching of history in schools.

Actually, he seems to say this:

"How can we know where we're going unless we know which way we're facing?"

Which isn't quite the same thing.

I think Santayana's quote is the one you really want
