GTCO Calcomp (RM Classboard) misses some small pen strokes

I have a board (circa Feb 01) which has developed a problem whereby it misses some smaller pen strokes. For example, if I draw xxx across the board, it will draw 95%. The cursor moves with the pen 100% of the time, but doesn't always seem to detect that the pen is in contact with the board, and therefore needs to draw. I've tried several pens with two different computers over usb and serial. The issue doesn't seem to be specific to a particular area on the board's surface.

I noticed on this thread that a replacement controller is likely to cost £200 and the same again for labour. Do the above symptoms seem to point towards a controller fault, or does this just sound like a degraded surface for a board of this age? Thanks

I'd go with the advice you received from support. However Hitachi, who sell the same GTCO device, consider the control boards a user replaceable part. If you have any identical boards you can swap over the control panels in about 15 minutes or so. This will allow you to confirm/eliminate the control board as the source of your trouble.

Other possible areas:

Thanks, I tried swapping the controllers as you suggested but the issue was still apparent on the same board, which I suppose means a faulty/tired board and therefore needs replacing.
