Another PXE Boot Question

I've just searched through the forum for PXE boot issues and can't seem to find one that describes my problem.

 

I have two machines made at the same time and from the same components, Machine A will pick up the DHCP in PXE boot and Machine B won't. It says it can't find any DHCP PXE info.

 

 

I've tried them on the same port so I know it isn't a switch issue, but I'm stumped!

 

 

Any ideas?

a long shot but I've noticed on some buggy (Via) cards that they need a cold restart before picking up DHCP. A (NIC) Bios upgrade helped me.

Might be a very dumb question.... What exactly is a cold restart?

I mean switch it off at the plug for a few secs

Is the card onboard, if so you may have to configure it in the BIOS to enable PXE

Does it display a valid UUID/GUID? (As apposed to all Fs)

If it is all zeros the motherboard does not support the UUID feature, if it is all Fs it means that it is supported but just not set in the SMBIOS tables. Itis usually quite simple to randomize this value if you can get a hold of the right DMI config stuff for the particular motherboard.

 

A question to the original OP, are they both on the same vlan and DHCP scope, also what do you have providing the PXE booting -WDS, RSI, thinstation - and are you using anything that would filter out what machines are offered PXE like approval mode on WDS or SMS server?
