marvin Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Hi I have unfiltered facebook on the EMBC webfiltering but for some reason i dont get the whole page loaded properly.... Basically the writing is displayed but none of the pictures can be seen and have red crosses on them. Also the chat doesnt load up at all... Anyone has idea on this? What do i need to include so that everything gets loaded properly.... I have put down Welcome to Facebook! | Facebook and https://facebook.com thinking that it probably requires secure connection but this still doesnt work. I think it might be some cookies not being loaded properly.... Any ideas please?
GrumbleDook Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 It is indeed the various other servers that hold the apps, the pictures adn so on ... the easiest thing to do is to wildcard it all. *.facebook.com ... worked for me.
AngryTechnician Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) I think you need to unblock more domains. All of the images are hosted on separate subdomains; for example, my profile image is stored on http://profile.ak.facebook.com/ A lot of the scripts and CSS files are stored on http://static.ak.fbcdn.net Are you able to add a wildcard exception such as "*.facebook.com"? Edit: What he said! Edited October 28, 2008 by AngryTechnician Damnit, too slow!
sparkeh Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Hmm in Netsweeper, wildcards have never seemed to work for me. I discovered that putting a preceding dot worked to unblock a domain, eg .facebook.com works for me (remember to untick the encode tick box - this seems to mess things up for us)
tom_newton Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 FWIW, fbcdn is the "facebook content delivery network" and basically shifts all their static content (through Akmai if I am not mistaken).
marvin Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Do you actually put http://*.facebook.com or just *.facebook.com? I have tried the *.facebook.com method but this has failed!!!!
sparkeh Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 My NS entry is http://.facebook.com As said above, the wildcard doesn't work for us but this does.
marvin Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Tried this and still no joy!!!! I am getting few pictues displayed but most of them have a red cross on them and none of the applications are loading!!!!! Grrrrrr............
sparkeh Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Ok, just to get the obvious question out the way... You are remembering to apply the policy after altering it? I only ask because I have been caught out like that before and forgot to reload the policies.
marvin Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 What do you mean by applying the policy? I just entered the address on the local allow URL lists of the group policy!!! Am i doing something wrong here?
sparkeh Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 What do you mean by applying the policy? I just entered the address on the local allow URL lists of the group policy!!! Am i doing something wrong here? Ah ha! On the left hand side of the screen, second box down called "System Tools". There is a link called "Apply settings". This reloads the policies and applies the changes you made.
sparkeh Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Me being stupid!!! Cracked it now!!! Good stuff - are unblocked sites working?
