10 user concurrent license

Ok, here is one fo you to get your teeth into.

 

Have recently purchased a 10 user concurrent license for the Serif software to install. However, the Serif software can't be run from a server, and must be installed locally on a machine....easy you say...however, students need to be able to access the program from varying computers each time (due to where lessons are held etc).

 

Is there any easy, reliable way of installing it locally on machines and it being accessed at all times (obviously by the 10 people that need it!).

 

My first response was to install it, then share the folder with a max amount of users connected set to 1, but this isnt a reliable way of doing it (in my eyes) as if it needs to be accessed by a user on another machine, the machine needs to be switched on...and there is no guarantee that this could happen.

It can't be run on Windows Server only XP.

 

Either set it up on each machine, or set it up on an XP "server" OR contact them and ask about an server-client setup\instructions.

Serif I have recently purchased 60 licenses for Serif Web Ex Plus and you can install it on the server there is a program Net something that you need to run from the CD to install it on the network I would also give Tech Support a ring if you are unsure

Someone posted a thread about the advantages of Ranger - well it's useful in situations like this, when you can specify maximum users of a program quickly and easily.

 

I'm surprised that there isn't a way to do it just with the server, though.

yeah, Serif doesn't like being installed on a server.

 

The other part to the problem is the desktop management software we use. We use Winsuite...which as the other Norfolk schools will know, is a PiTA as some people know!

 

It locks the desktop down so much, that the shortcuts set up within Winsuite, must point to "one" installation file, if that makes sense!
