Need a platform to Archive newspaper clippings, photos etc

I've been asked to set something up to archive newspaper clippings from articles on school related things. This would probably be made public and therefore be web based.

 

It would also need to be searchable.

 

Does anybody know of anything suitable?

Thanks for revealing Gallery2 to me look good.

I'm not sure if its quite what is needed though, most of the content in this archive will be images (scans) though, plus some text to go with it.

 

Essentially I need something where we can archive images (mainly), plus other downloads such documents and sounds possibly.

 

These will need to be tagged with keywords to make them searchable and they need to be on a timeline.

Would it not be a good idea to use some sort of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to turn the newspaper clippings into standard text and through the use of a system (can't think of one of the top of my head at the minute) you will be able to search for words and it will bring the necessary documents up.

 

It will save you a lot of time having to tag all the resources.

Ideally they would be OCR'd I dont know how many clippings there are from the past so there could be a lot to do.

 

DocuXplorer Software seems quite good, but I need something web based.

If it's going to be from the local newspaper, might be worth getting in touch with their editor, they might be kind enough to email you the articles. This is what I used to do at my previous school and this worked very well. You still have to sort out how you want to display it on your website, but makes things quicker once it's up and running

That would be handy but there are already loads of old newspaper cuttings that would go on. I need a web based system that is straight forward enough for other staff to put these things on and is easy to use for pupils and maybe public.
