Richie1972 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 We've recently found a few computers running XP with service pack 3 have a strange problem. If a user goes into Nova T4 and moves the mouse to the menu bar, Nova just exits - no error, just quits. It seems to only affect computers that are installed with XP that has been slip streamed with SP3. computers that have SP3 installed after SIMS is installed work fine - as do the PCs that didn't work when SP3 is re-installed. I am guessing that somehow the SIMS install is overwriting a file with an older version (SP3 presumably having a newer version). Has anyone else come across this problem?
Richie1972 Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Actually, having tested further, a re-install of SP3 still didn't fix it. I still think it is the SIMS install writing an older version of a file that is causing the problem - anyone know what it could be?
User3204 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 ...I still think it is the SIMS install writing an older version of a file that is causing the problem - anyone know what it could be? It shouldn't, what installers are "supposed" to do is check the version of the file, before installing, so you should always end up with the most up-to-date version of the file. This is why you should reboot when it tells you to, because it has updated a file that is in use, but it needs to reboot to load it properly. Tell them to stop using Nova T, there is nothing that can be done in Nova T that can't be done in SIMS .net (although it's not necessarily easy).
Richie1972 Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 I'd love to tell them not to use it. However, one of the staff needs it for cover and class lists, etc and another needs it for timetabling (there are some aspects that can't be done with Nova T6)
ChrisH Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 You better get them on the cover 7 course soon as support ends for the old one soon.
matt40k Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 I think you make Nova-T4 run in Compability mode. There are other DOSly things you can try, can't remember them tho! I can just about remember the FMS printer fix!
