SIMS Errors

Hi Guys,

 

Thought I would post some errors that SIMS seem to be getting.

 

Error 1:

 

Cannot remove the specified item because it was not found in specified Collection : System.ArgumentException

 

 

Error 2:

 

S:\SIMS\Connect.ini file : System.Exception

 

Any ideas?

do these errors both appear before logging on to sims, after logging on or during some operation

Error 2 suggests that the client cannot see the S:\SIMS\Connect.ini file, so it has either:

 

1) been deleted/renamed (in which case it would probably affect all clients unless they had a local copy which didn't redirect)

 

or

 

2) there isn't an S: drive mapped to the share on the server in which the SIMS folder resides.

Error2 is most common on wireless clients when moved from point A to point B with the laptop on and the wireless has dropped in between resulting in a "disconnected network drive". Normally double clicking on the S Drive (sims drive) and re-running cures it.

 

Error1 I'm not sure on. Sorry.

On the machine, can you open that file?

 

Guessing you can't, sometimes it does mess up, the fix is to copy the connect.ini from s:\sims to c:\program files\sims\sims .net

(overwrite)

 

Should work ok, just remember to change it when\if you change the server(name)!

I'm against local connect.ini files for that very reason.

 

What happens if a user is offline and runs SIMS given the connect.ini is there, does it pop up a login box or?

I had a school who didn't like the idea of mapping an S drive, for security. People was saving stuff there rather then there network drive (thus beating the disc quotas)

 

You can use SIMS without an S Drive (or any mapped drive)

 

I created a script that runs once they install a new pc,

 

 

sims being a DNS CNAME for the actual server

It runs \\sims\capita$\setups\simsinst.exe

Then once it's done it changes the setups paths in sims.ini so it reads \\sims\capita$\setups, some reason sometimes it does a full DNS resolve so it reads \\servername not \\sims

It then creates the local connect.ini

 

Anyway, going a bit off topic. Hopefully a bit of food for thought.
