zmasteruhs Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 have been required to design a network topology for the company that i work for so that in the event of failure it can be restored. i was wondering if there was any freeware or cheap software to make my job easier or at least computerised.
russdev Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Hi Try these threads few good tools in them http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2186&highlight=network+notepad Russ
Norphy Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I used Dia when I was redesigning our network. Not brilliant but the price is right As for the poll, its hard to put a figure on it but I'd say a fairly large amount of the damage is deliberate, perhaps up to a third.
Ric_ Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 There'salways pen and paper - not quite free (a nice pen will set you back a couple of quid)
zmasteruhs Posted April 11, 2006 Author Posted April 11, 2006 whats random about the pole i work in a school with high levels of deliberate vandalism (one of the reasons for needing a topology diag) and wondered how many others have similar problems. thanks for the help so far i will investigate all options and i think that investing in a good pen might be occouring soon anyway due to managment complaining that they never get any feedback on what or how faults have been fixed. rgds Z
Norphy Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 You could get Visio. Its not exactly expensive to us educational types, indeed its only £11 from Ramesys. Or free if you buy enough other stuff from them. They're giving us 200 free WinServer CALs and 50 free Visio licences in an upcoming order
john Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I dont think I have ever has as much as a free pen out of them and I spent over 7K at my last place with them with 5 of that being in one order Never mind, if they don't get my R2 key sorted ASAP then I will want more than the Ramesys Official copys of my Server disks as they have not got any genuines in at present..... Anyway, I am sure they will solve it for me as I am going to put lots of £ there way in the next 18 months hopefully, so they are doing the best to keep me sweet....
Ric_ Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 @john: I got free media (server, isa, exchange, office and visio), a free visio license and some free SQL CALs. I didn't even ask! I think your account manager sucks - try Paul Sheeran
