Danny159 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Hey, I have a VPN at work and I have connected fine using Windows XP... Not on Vista it wont connect.... any idea why? My error says it cant connect to the VPN but all the info if fine... and it worked on the XP mauchine... Thanks Danny

kmount Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 SNTP is a time sync protocol, I can't understand why you'd be seeing that. Try from your vista box telneting to the IP of your VPN on port 1723 to see if that connects, if not, it sounds like the firewall, if it does, its something else.
6Foot2 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Don't want to hijack your thread Danny but I have a recurring problem with a VPN on Vista also. I have a VPN enabled trough our LEA Grid direct into my school where I am a Network Manager. When I install the CISCO VPN client at home it installs fine and I am able to connect. However after shutting down and logging on again I find that Internet access is disabled apparently because the VPN client install process has installed a second Cisco 'virtual' network adaptor. The second adaptor is not active at logon and I cannot enable it. Vista complains that while there is at least one network adaptor which is not active/enabled Inetrnet access is not possible. Any ideas? It is DMN!
kmount Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Press the Winkey and R, in the box that comes up type cmd and press enter. In there, type telnet ip_of_your_server 1723 and press enter. See what happens ... take a screenshot and PM me it you're unsure.

We could VPN into our network fine from an XP client, with identical settings and a vista client it wouldnt work. Even tested it from work to make sure (RDP to home, VPN back in ) Was a no-go for some reason. Didnt have time to sit and solve as we had a xp lappy that was feasable for the job.

As it seems fine on his new laptop I have connected fine via Vista Home Premium to VPNs so I suspect that it is an issue with the setup of that specific machine or the VPN endpoint (is it a Windows server and does it have all of the updates).
