Keyboard buttons

Does anyone know how to disable the buttons on the top of some keyboards that open web mail, calculator, IE and other things.

 

using stone computers running XP SP3.

Is there a driver/software utility for the keyboard? Some I've seen only require this to be installed to make the extra buttons work - but the "normal" keyboard part works fine without it. You may be able to remove this and resolve the problem that way.

damn. no software came with the keyboards. the keyboard is: Microsoft basic keyboard 1.0a with a PS/2 connection

I can send you some of our Y7 kids. They'll disable them in a couple of minutes

You could remap the keys to something else like space with a script that alters the registry keys as shown here:

Remap the CapsLock Key or any Key in Windows XP, 2000, Vista and 2003 (includes the appropriate codes for it too)

 

Or you could try installing the Intellisync software which will allow you to alter them in a GUI type way.

TweakUI for XP will disable them - you should be able to capture the changes with a registry scanner and roll them out elsewhere. Might be handier as it would be global across any multimedia keyboard?

 

Explorer -> Command Keys in TweakUI and change all the actions on the relevant keys to "Do Nothing"
