markman Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Hello all! I am having a problem that with authentication. Some users get on fine and some don't get the log in window adn IE defaults to the Microsoft site rather than the school site that they should see. Now, we have bought into CN pro but we can't get it online until half term when I will hopefully have a RAID controller to go into the new server and I figure out how to install it properly. Now my question, if I disable authentication will it remove our login problems? I assume so but an lost with Linux. Sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

ahuxham Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Download & Go using our self-installation Linux software No need for instructions! Download onto server, open terminal, cd to folder, chmod a+x filename, ./filename and it'll go, if there are dependancy issues it'll state them.

If it was group policy would it not be them all? other people can log onto the same machines?

For example ISA server wont allow a connection with a blank password. Our lower school pupils YEARS 6 and below don't have passwords as they forget them all the time. Those machines that work, get a pupil that doesnt work to try on a working machine, it could be machine related. ahuxham Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Roaming per user Sounds more like an issue with profiles than, if theres something different between the users, than surely thats the problem. 1. On a student thats working, copy their roaming profile from wherever its saved. 2. Place in an accessible folder with "Everyone" read permissions 3. Rename .dat file to .man 4. Load .man into hive and call 010101. 5. Right click 010101 > Permissions > Add "Everyone" read/write (its mandatory, no writing actually takes place) 6. Change students profile paths to \\servername\mandatory 7. Log them in, and check it all works. There are guides on Edugeek if your unsure about mandatory profiles and permissions and the likes.

Removing access would allow everyone through, but no logging of usernames, and management is horrid. To get it working, albeit to it, however contact support and get them working.
