Mac Address

There is a switch in this building that doesn't have a console port and we don't have a listing of it's IP address which is making it very difficult to manage it in any way. This particular switch is routing from another switch and while I can find a list of MAC addresses for this port, I can't get the IPs so I can identify the switch.

 

 

I think that all makes sense

There are often tools released by the vendors of the switches that will broadcast over the network and return a list of all of the switches of that brand on the network and their current ips. Might be worth a try.

Angry IP scanner can be configured to scan a range of IPs and return the mac addresses.

If its HP you can use 'procurve manager' to search via MAC and it'll return IP, name, plus the switch and port number its plugged into.

It's an HP Procurve 2124, I've downloaded the PCM and will give it a try once I work out how to use it properly
