LOST MY DRIVE

I have been using my desktop for around 3 years now. Pentium 4 Windows XP Prof, 512MB ram, 2 x 80gb hds, cd writer running dual boot, both XP. All was working fine until i had a crash and then one drive has disappeared. The first drive had 3 partitions and drive d had 2 partitions. Both had bootable XP operation systems. Both drives are visible in the BIOS, however, drive d not accessable or visible with explorer. I tried using the REPAIR console from the XP cd, but it only showed c:\windows.

 

Any suggestions on how to revive my d drive ?

Does the missing drive show up in Computer Management?

Yes shows up in computer management as unallocated

 

any way to recover ?

 

Will really help as i have a lot of data on it

If its showing as unallocated it suggests the partition table has had a knock on the head.

 

You could install some data recovery software, maybe something from this list and have it look at the drive and do a recovery based on the whole drive rather than partitions.

 

For goodness sake though, when recovering from the "suspect" drive, restore the files onto a different drive either your first or external media.
