Moving CMIS

Hi

 

Wonder if any of you gurus can give me some advice on the first steps to do this:

 

I have CMIS installed on the E: drive of a server and need to move the whole bang-shoot over to the G: drive. Serco support are their usual hepful selves and insist they do not support SQL questions. Could anyone give me an idiot's guide of how to go about this - or at least a pointer to some pretty low level documentation of how to start?

I should first say that I do not have CMIS and that you home is at risk if you do not keep payments on your mortgage on any loan secured on it. Share prices can go down as well up etc. etc.

 

In SIMS world we would probably un/reinstall the SQL server and then reinstall in the desired drive, go through the motions of a new install of the MIS and then reattach the LDF and MDF of live data or restore from backup.

Check the docs to see if there is a similar procedure.

 

Anyway its about naf of Serco not to lend a hand. They must customers who have to move servers or go through disaster recovery. What you're asking isn't too disimilar.

Got a guide of how to install CMIS. As NetworkGeezer says backup, uninstall, reinstall, restore is the way I'd go too. PM me your email address as it's quite big (4.2MB)

having used CMIS (but not for a year), I always found that you could copy it anywhere, just create a new link to wherever the DB was to be found

A lot of Googling and reading books says I should be able to "detach" from Enterprise manager, copy the mdf & ldf files wherever I want and then "attach" again and the whole lot should just fire up - I'm happy to reinstall Facility - as that is pretty much the "upgrade" route anyway. Thanks for the suggestions - just been doing the same to FMS which was pretty easy apart from getting rid of the purple hand messages - got a big list of fixes from Capita should anyone need it. That's right but I'm not sure about moving the actual database itself.

 

If your not moving the database the CDB file should work ok.

 

Anyway just sent spuffmonkey a (old) guide of how to do the easy reinstall bit.

Should say watch out moving the controller like that uninstall and reinstall is definately the way to go. Setting up the ODBC bit is a pain but it's covered in the guide.

 

 

but the application front end bit can be copied and pasted anywhere.
