A letter in the post this morning from school.. with news of a pay rise. I haven't had one since I've been there (3.5 years)

 

It's very substantial, totally unexpected and there are no catches in the small print! I haven't even dropped any hints.

 

Suddenly I'm feeling far more mellow about all the grief I've had at the start of this term. Someone, somewhere obviously appreciates me.

 

My feeling of goodwill may well evaporate by 08:05 on Monday, but for now, I'm a very happy bunny!

They probably haven't been able to find me. I've spent the last 2 weeks racing between buildings sortng out the teachers.

I wish I could. I work in the private sector, which means that I don't get the fixed pay scales of many of you. It works both ways. I've been well under paid with no rises for 3.5 years... I'm still underpaid probably, but the rise is above inflation and I haven't had to wait until April to get it.

 

I intend to enjoy this weekend!

I've gone up around £1k in the year I've been with my current employer! Something to do with Unison and FE/Public Sector more than 'Hey we can't afford to lose this guy' though

Sounds like cost-of-living and time served increments to me. Standard fare in the public sector but not technically a 'payrise' , but as elsegee and others working in the private sector know, even these non performance related increases aren't a given outside public sector school/LA employment [although many LAs will soon be looking at phasing through PRP to replace the traditional incremenets under their modernisation agendas]. So her pay rise must have come as a very welcome surprise. congrats to her.
