rhyds Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I have a radio in my car that takes USB memmory sticks to play MP3s/WMAs. I'm thinking of buying an MP3 player that can work with it while I'm in the car. The problem is that the MP3 player MUST use FAT and support directories otherwise it won't work through the radio, and I want to avoid having extra audio cables running if possible.
Sirbendy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I have a 1gb generic USB MP3 player stick I use in the Astra..Think it's FAT32. Might be FAT. I'm a cheapass though - standard boggo Vx radio unit, tape adapter with 3.5mm jack plugged into USB MP3 player, hidden in the centre console, powered from a 12v->USB adapter that I've hard wired in under the console and run out to a 4 port USB hub. Has the nice benefit that I can use it to power my satnav, charge the phones etc as well.
Michael Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 The problem with FAT or FAT16 is it's limited to 2GB. FAT32 would be more appropriate and should be compatible. I don't believe there to be any differences, apart from FAT32 addressing much larger single partitions.
rhyds Posted September 11, 2008 Author Posted September 11, 2008 FAT32's fine, but it has to support directories as the radio gets VERY slow at swapping tracks if there's a lot of tracks in one folder e.g. root.

Pete10141748 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 My driver doesn't put the radio on. I think it might annoy the other passengers on the bus God bless fruit-name-inspired-company portable music devices!
