Force Teams to open Office documents in Online app ???

Hi all,

 

Got a mildly weird one here.... hopefully someone can help.

 

 

Microsoft Teams Class - Classwork or Assignments tab...    

 

Teachers are setting classwork that requires students to work collaboratively on e.g. Word documents.

 

The pupils are opening the file but instead of it opening the Word app in another tab, it opens within the Team in a 'frame', causing mega laggy performance.

 

 

Does anyone know how to globally force these documents to open in the online app, rather than within a frame in the Team ?

There is a setting in Office options that can make web documents always open in the desktop app, but that has to be set by the user, and I haven't looked into if there is a way to set that centrally yet.

 

EDIT: THe setting would be useful wouldn't it!!  In any Office app go "File" > "Options" (down the bottom of the the left column). Then select "Advanced", scroll to the "File open preference" section and set "Open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files using:" to "Desktop".
