School Wikipedia Page

Hi all,

 

Somebody keeps editing our Wikipedia page, is there much we can do about it?

 

Anybody else ever found themselves in this situation?

Constantly. Tag a moderator in the talk page from a logged in account and request further edits be locked down. They will ask you to verify ID from the school.

A school I worked at many years ago was constantly being edited. At one point there was never anything available for school dinners because the fat head teacher would eat it all, and we were running a brothel onsite.

We are not having that sort of problem but we have an overly interested historian who used to work here as an apprentice constantly updating the page, all of it true and not particularly damaging but just annoying and not really relevant.

I would ask, what's the harm?  You say annoying, but how is it annoying you or the school?  Seems like it would be a benefit to have a non-school affiliated person tending to and curating a well-rounded page.

Certainly depends a lot on context. I'd love to get rid of the bits on our school's page that reference dodgy past teachers but not allowed to do that  Ultimately it isn't up to us, it isn't "our page" so to speak so we're at the mercy of Wikipedia. Vandalism is where the issue would normally lie and they are quite hot on that and it's easy to revert those changes yourself also (and request a lock if needed as mentioned) but otherwise if it's factual and relevant, it's not really up to you to say yay or nay - the most the moderators are likely to do is correct the grammar or formatting in that case.

It is just annoying to not have control over what is being posted about us publicly and it is time consuming to have to keep checking the page for updates to ensure they are accurate\relevant or remove them if not.

 

We have evidence to suggest that the posts are coming from an ex-employee who left under circumstances and has posted comments on other social media platforms that could be viewed as slanderous.

 

But yes, in general I know we cannot control what anybody posts about us publicly anywhere really.

Totally get that, and I was in a similar position with Wikipedia a while back at a different employer.  I think it is one of those situations you have to pull out your zen and consider the Serentiy prayer.
