Bambu Lab - School Network Considerations

Hi All,

 

I'm looking for feedback from schools who currently run BambuLab (WiFi ideally) printers on there school network. They would be use in the DT Department by students.

 

Have you gone with cloud controlled and allowed this via your firewall/web filter?

Or have you gone with local only control?

Are you using BambuLab slicer or third party (With Bambu connect)?

 

Just looking for any pitfalls and working out an outline plan of how we could get it working before feedback back to DT.

I've stuck them on our guest 6th form Wi-Fi. The teacher uses their laptop and domain Wi-Fi to send jobs via the cloud. Live webcam won't work without firewall changes on the domain but isn't needed.

 

Using the cloud enabled me to isolate them from the domain and the considerations of that.

Yesh, we have a hidden SSID to connect similar devices to, sits on its own VLAN. Got 6 X1 Carbons running, only staff have BambuLab though.
 

We've gone with cloud control, and it seems to work fine, once we allowed the relevant ports through the filter (it's pretty well documented on the Bambu website).

No 3rd party tools, until our engineering staff discover them at least.

Sounds like we could go Cloud route if we wanted then. We have a 'IOT' network which they could sit on, with staff and students going out to the cloud and back in, it wouldn't need any local cross VLAN access.

Don't suppose you have that link to hand, all I can find is vague as sin and about as secure as leaving the front door open. We get some come through and I have manually captured each one as the doc they gave me was a book of lies.
