Google Workspace - Chat Space Email Address - failing creation

We are trying to add an email address to a Google Chat Space.

 

It appears that in Chat Spaces has thr inability to be able to Generate Email under a Chat Space so that we can use the space as announcements from external systems.

 

In a Chat Space under settings, there is the option to Generate Email. When this is clicked we get an error stating the email cannot be generated.

 

Someone else was having the same issue back in 2024 but I would have thought this would be working now in 2026 - https://support.google.com/chat/thread/283115581/cannot-generate-email-address-for-google-chat-space-error-msg-email-generation-has-failed?hl=en

 

Could someone test this on their Google Workspace please. The account i'm testing with has full Admin access to Workspace.
