Hi all,

Question for other Securly users - how are you finding performance lately?

We have one site that is almost unusable (only just got Securly - but has also had recent network changes so has tatken some time to unpick where the issue lies) and another that has been using Securly for years but started experiencing very slow loading times in the last few weeks.

For Chromebook users, the extension also appears to have the same performance issues off-site.

I have a ticket open with Securly, but wondering as well as the outage experienced the other week, if anyone else had noticed a decline in performance?

Thanks,
Stephen

Performance and usability seems to have fallen off a cliff since the move to the MV3 extension. Choice seems to be blue dot overlay constantly or delays before search terms / sites are actually blocked. I have tickets open for a number of school and apparently the DevOps team are due to release an update for the Chromebook extension, [3.0.28] but no details on a release for Edge and Chrome Browser extensions.  Whether this fixes the issues remains to be seen.

Thanks that's useful.

However - one site doesn't use the extension at all, yet has still experienced significant slow downs. Not sure what's going on - also the outage wasn't exactly well communicated.

Had the whole thing go down for a few hours a couple of weeks ago (they confirmed it was their side).

Regularly getting the blue dots when searching (Google maps is hilarious. Blue dots every time you zoom in!)

We swapped firewalls over the summer and I was leaning towards this being the issue but if others are getting the same then it's probably Securly.

Shame as we've had it for years and it's, mostly, been a solid product. As we're moving towards 1:1 the Securly Home platform was looking really good for us too.

Edited to say we use the Edge extension for LAN PCs and SecurlyDNS for BYOD.

Thank you, that's really helpful.

Yes the outage - that wasn't publicised - I did manage to get the below response (only on request though):

Dear Stephen,

This morning, November 14, 2025, our UK cluster experienced a period of degraded performance. You may have been impacted by sites not loading properly or our browser extension overlay appearing longer than expected.
We can confirm this issue is now fully resolved and all services are stable.

What happened?
The issue was caused by an unforeseen problem with our automatic scaling systems following a recent infrastructure update. While the update was fully tested, it prevented our systems from scaling correctly under this morning's production traffic load.

Our engineering team identified the problem and made the necessary manual adjustments to restore stability.

We sincerely apologize for the disruption this caused. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Likewise, it's a shame the performance seems to be letting them down.

Our Chromebooks have been going slower,  I thought it was just the Chromebooks,   thanks for the heads up!

Likewise, glad to hear it isn't just us...

Also having just made the decision with SLT to remove the extension for our Windows devices, have had this back on my ticket;

We have pushed out a partial fix for the extension issue, which should alleviate some of the issues the extension users are experiencing. Please note, that it may take some time for the extension to be installed, and some devices may need to be restarted for the update to take effect.
The version number for this update is 3.0.28.

Be super useful if we can all feedback if/when that comes down to devices if it makes a noticable difference? I've gone back to clarify if that is for ALL extension types - and also what about the issues with non-extension devices (iOS, macOS login screen etc)

Just to update on this - I've been informed the Chromebook extension has had an update pushed that should resolve the performance issues there - however nothing for the Edge/Chrome extensions.

I also think there are performance issues with SmartPAC/SmartDNS in terms of DNS resolution responses - when running Wireshark from my DNS servers, I am getting lots of server response failures and other warnings;

- DNS query restransmission

- DNS response missing

Where the destination address is Securly's DNS server, and the URLs in the information have securly in as well

I have sent this to Securly support as well, but if anyone else has spotted this it would be good to know.

Cheers
