presuming you have 10.5 in which case you need to go to system prefs --> sharing

In there it should give you an option to select which folder(s) you have shared and alter permissions with regards to whose allowed access and what type of access ie read only, read and write etc.

Alter those there to allow the relevant user or the everyone group to have full FTP access.

Also have you got the firewall enabled ( whether on windows or on os x or on a router or else where )

If so you need to ammend settings to allow FTP on port 21 or 443 ( if using SFTP ) ie secure FTP.

Also I think there is a windows sharing service that if enabled will allow it to work with windows sharing ( afaik )

if you go system prefs --> security --> firewall

there should be options there regarding if it allows everything in and out or not. What option have you got selected there ?

Just gonna reboot to go into os x now :)

ok so you have opened file sharing

underneath shared folders you have clicked on the + symbol to add the folder you want to share.

You have then made sure that the above mentioned folder is highlighted and in the right pane where the users are you have given "unknown user" and "everyone" full access rights and also have clicked on options to enabled FTP.

Also in the firewall have you clicked on the button to add FTP as one of the allowed services ?

if you click the + symbol under users you should be able to add a new user called Unknown User ( both with capital U's ) for Unknown and User with a space in between as you can see.

You can then leave the password fields blank or set a default password ( try with and without and see what happens )

I already have a user called Unknown User so must of been there by default.

it wont let me, when i try to add a new person, it lets me fill out the info then flashes but nothing happens! but i did creat myself as a user before should i delete that one or something?

delete it and on your windows machine create a user account with the exact same credentials as your mac so if your username on your mac is user then create a user on your windows machine called user and both must have the same passwords including capital letters etc.

Then try it

If not then you will need to find a dedicated ftp server for os x and do it that way ? Short of that use SMB or something else ?
