Arbor - Parent App - turn off allowing parental data change submissions?

Hi guys we are deploying the Parent App from Arbor - seems to be going well for the most part  but our system allows parents to update/amend their childs details - we were wondering can we turn it off entirely?  Esp. for Medical things (I'm not sure if the parent was able to add a medical condition for their child or just edited an existing one, still looking into this)

 

All I've found is an option to auto approve - we have this off (as we don't want it on) but we would like it so they don't even have the option to submit - is this a thing that abor can change ?

No, as far as I'm aware it's not possible to turn this feature off.

 

And, to be honest, not sure why you would want to either, as it is far quicker and easier to do it this way than have parents emailing in all the time!

Having auto approve off is the move to make - you need to allow parents to see and update the data you're holding on them effectively and securely. Why wouldn't you want them to submit an update to you using the parent app?

This is just what I was asked by SMT - I think they just wanted time to get procedures in place/communications out to parents about it first. Turning it on by stages.  And maybe a concern about a parent putting in a medical condition that hasn't actually been diagnosed?  (I could be wrong about this however!)

Hi - you can disable their ability to see specific student details via Students > Parents & Guardians > Parent Portal Settings. If you scroll down the settings, there is a student details bit in which you could choose not to show medical details at all (and various other parts). Having it set to not auto-approve is the way though. The parent requests a change but you don't have to approve it. Depends on whether you have the staff to administrate that though, I suppose.

Should have expected it to be a Senior Leadership 'initiative'!

 

As mentioned above, the best you can suggest is to limit what parents are able to see (and therefore, presumably, what they're able to request amendments for?) to slowly 'reveal' the data in stages. Other than that, perhaps some communication home advising parents what to do (/not do) and how things will be processed in school might be worthwhile?

 

For what it's worth, when we moved over to Arbor about 18 months ago, we weren't inundated with change requests - nor are we every September when the new Year 7s and 12s join. Sure, there are some, but most are really quick and easy to approve (change mum's phone number, add child's religion, add in dietary requirements etc.).
