Selling unused kit

Morning all,

 

I've got a server room full of our old wireless network hardware following a recent connect the classroom project.

 

Rough idea of what we've got -

1 x Cisco 8500 x-Series Wireless Controller

88 x Cisco AIR-CAP2702I-E Access Points

2 x Cisco Catalyst 4500 X-Series Fibre switches – Both 16 port

Plus some Cisco Catalyst 2960 X-Series 48 Port PoE

 

All with associated fiber modules and DAC cables where appropriate.

 

It seems such a shame to just dispose of it all as WEEE wastage. Does anyone know of anywhere that might offer us something for them?

Following - we don't have any network gear, but about 20 Chrome OS desktops with monitors that are only a couple of years old. Recent refresh from our new Trust means we have moved to a Microsoft setup.

Specialise in refurbishing Cisco Kit.

 

Unfortunately the switches probably aren't worth much anymore. Have a pair of 4500x switches myself that are essentially worthless. Just keeping them in my personal stash as spares.

Might be some value in the WLC

Thank you for the suggestion, sadly we spoke to them a while back. They basically told us our kit was worthless and offered us about £1000 for the whole lot

The sad thing is, anything that a school is throwing out thats 10+ years old probbaly is worthless.   Unless you wanna go down the legally dubious road of trying to sell your school stuff on ebay etc - you're probably gonna have to take the lower offers from the big refurb places.  I personall thought it was better to have that low amount of money and buy some chromebooks with it than the leave it rot in a cuboard.

For PCs/laptops etc., if you don't mind not getting the best deal and clearing cupboard space is more important, then CeX will usually take them (they don't have a maximum limit of how many devices you can sell to them, but you would be branded a bulk-sell customer and they will give themselves a bulk discount compared to what's published on their website).

 

However, in that case, like with selling online on eBay/Amazon, etc., you are responsible for ensuring they are securely wiped under GDPR unlike a recycler who would give you a data destruction certificate.

Just had a look on CeX at our particular model - £20 cash they would offer us per device. Looking online at multiple sources, they still seem to be selling for about ~£500!

Sounds about right for CeX.
