mrstrong Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 wow really enjoying this thread, feel I need to up my "cable knowledge" now. I remember buying a "separates" hi-fi system from richer sounds years ago and the guy trying to sell me expensive connector cables. Thought is was bullsh!7 at the time but maybe he was right 1
talksr Posted June 25, 2025 Author Posted June 25, 2025 Thanks everyone for your responses! It would seem this is a bodge of a job. I am assuming that the engineers who fitted this must have not had the correct cable, so just bodged it together, using snake oil for the lubrication. I did try coat hanger wire as someone suggested, but the feedback was too much. It reminded me of when I used some extra thick Sainsburys foil stuffed into the power plug when the fuse blew. Lots of sparks but no action, which was a disappointment. Jokes aside, I have ordered one from Amazon (thank you for the help and links). I appreciate some think maybe the quality isn’t that good, but this isn’t anything spectacular. Just a school hall, so used for the odd YouTube video, nothing high-end. If the cable gets damaged again, at least from Amazon, it won’t cost the earth, unlike that snake oil stuff 😆

Thought is was bullsh!7 at the time but maybe he was right It can be a bit of both. Richer Sounds often recommend pure copper cable which was one of the best audio upgrades I did. There was a noticeable difference between copper coated to pure copper cable. Changing nothing but the quality of the cable impacted my sound output. I say it’s a bit of both because cables like those £50+ HDMI cables from PC World or many of the £100+ or worse £500+ audio cables are a complete rip off. At the same time more expensive high quality audio and HDMI quality do matter but only up to a point. EDIT: To clarify as long as the cable quality reaches a certain threshold any more doesn't matter. Some of the cheaper cables can impact sound or image due to low quality.
