People don't use sims much directly as we have Synergy but I think they still use it for reports. Since the last sims update, staff are coming to me with the classic error "incompatible database" but they have the solus client that is no longer connected to the server. I found this error on the server:

"warning - an unknown agent on this machine has attempted contact".

anyone seen this before? I couldn't find it on the ess now parentpay site.

Could the server be resolving DNS incorrectly? If it's seeing a name of a device which had the IP instead of the name of the device which now has it, that might explain it? I don't know, just guessing!

Yeah seen this one a lot recently. It's like the client updated and generated a new unique identifier for itself and now the server refused to recognise it.  (The UI tells me the server believes the client is running the older version of solus)

Remove the client from the Solus console on the server, uninstall the Solus service from the client and then back on the server, re-add the client.

EDIT: and yeah, make sure the client dns name lines up with its current IP before you start the de-install/re-install- the old way to breaks things still work well a decade after release.
