Get data out of SIMS about use of external cover

Hello

We use SIMS for cover and I would like to pull some data about cover out of SIMS for analysis eg in Excel. Trying to do a comparison in our use of external cover (cover supervisors and teachers) between dates X&Y versus dates A&B. Interested in generating a report that would give me date, name, hours worked (interested in working out if full or half day), role, so that I can work out comparative stats for "man days of external cover supervisors booked between date X and Y", "man days of external supply teachers booked between date X and Y" versus competing dates, etc

 

Has anyone got any pointers on how I would get such a report out of SIMS? I've had a look at the Report Design and it doesn't seem to have any of the options I'm after... thanks in advance for any help

Won’t the default report show that?

 

Tools - cover - statistics - cover

 

Shows all cover assigned during X dates and then externals would be shown on there as the silly $ style staff codes

Hello, thanks for your reply. I had seen that feature but on my system it returns fields Staff Code, Staff Name, No. of Assignments, Total Credited Time, Weighted time. The counts for a given supply staff show the total number of "assignments" (lessons) between two dates but it's not clear how this relates to days worked.

 

I'm trying to work out how many days each $Supply did so I can try to do like-for-like cost comparison. Does your SIMS return different fields on that report?

For any future readers, I managed to achieve this but it was not easy and most of the work had to be done in Excel with a lot of assumptions and inferences.

 

I found a report in SIMS that outputted columns

Full Name

Staff Code

Class

Period

Period Date

Period Times

Cover Staff Code

Cover Staff Name

Cover Date

Cover Times

Cover Type

 

From this I was able to extract a list of cover staff (starting staff code $...) and the time(s) they had covered lesson on each date. From this, I was able to calculate the cumulative length of lessons they covered per day and with some crude logic I decided anything more than 3.5 hours was a 'full day' and anything less would probably have been a 'half day' shift. From this I could then generate total number of cover staff man-days worked per period and apply a crude day rate average to calculate cost. It was a pain.
