I've pushed out some software to windows devices using a group policy object.

Security Filtering was set to Authenticated Users and the policy was applied at the top level of my domain joined devices as we required it everywhere.

I now wish to evaluate a newer version of the software to a small subset of the whole estate, I'm thinking the only way to now do this is to create a security group of all the devices on the network called "softwarename_V1.0" and replace Authenticated Users with this new group.

Then, create a new GPO for the updated version of the software and set security filtering to softwarename_V2.0.

Move a couple of PC's from one security group to the other, ensuring the option "Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management" is set to Enabled.

Or is there a better way?

Cheers

Make a new group policy with the updated software, and allocate that to A/D organisational unit only containing your test computers.
