We are looking at allowed domains in Google Workspace whilst going through a merger at the moment.

Due to the discrepancies in the online systems, some of the primary schools in the other trust have individual Google Workspaces so I've added their domains to our Allowed Domain list thinking this would allow this to work as Google confirms the domains in thn allowed domains list.

I've been into the Classroom Settings and set the option for those uzers of the allowed domains to join the classes however when I go to added them to the class I get an error saying "Can't add student (or teacher) to this class". I've even set the settings in Classroom Settings to the least restrictive trying to add the Google accounts but again I get an error.

Does anyone know if this would work if we gave the Google Classcode out as that is the last and only way I can see this working.

Hmm i have not tested the difference to be honest, it may be that you can only invite your own tennants through the invite button.

Try the classcode and see if the same people can get on in that.

I assume you have been able to check the Classroom settings in Google Admin within each google workspace tenancy? I believe you will need to add your domain as an allowlisted domain in the other individual tenancy's, or adjust the Google Classroom settings to allow users to join any google workspace classroom (under Google Admin > Apps > Classroom).

Their are two different settings: One which controls who can Join your tenancy's classrooms, and the second which controls who's classes your tenancy's users can join.

I didn't know our domain had to be added to their allowed domain list.

I can see in the Classroom settings that there are 2 options. One for users of our tenancy accessing someone elses Classrooms and the other for external users accessing our Classrooms.

I'll get the user to try the Google Classcode and see if that works.

It will depend on those settings in their tenancy as to whether you need to add your domain to their allowlist. From the sounds of your situation, you will need:

'Which classes can users in your domain join' - Set to Classes in allowlisted domains in your tenancy

'Who can join classes in your domain?' - Set to either a) Users in allowlisted domains, should you add your domain to their allowlist, or b) Any Google Workspace User (meaning any workspace account can be invited to the classrooms regardless of domain).

We have had to do this before within our MAT for central staff, so it should work once all set-up. Happy to elaborate.

When setting up shared drives for multiple domains / tenants, we had to white list each of the domains in each of the tenants for it to work properly.

We already have the following set which doesn't work, yet we don't have our domain on the other tenancy added to their Allowed Domains list.
