Has anyone had a go at setting up PowerBI with SIMS yet? I have got the basics set up and it really does open up a lot of possibilities with analysing your data.

Yes I had a try earlier this week - wanted to set something up to replicate the Capita offering then show to SLT to gain their interest and hopefully get some Pro licenses bought!

I have only used the Capita commandreporter spreadsheet for creating the batch files, I went my own way with the data extracts and presentation.

Yes I went my own way with the extraction and presentation just used their range of slides as a guide to what to present as a first offering. Exciting stuff would really like to go on a DAX course but quite expensive and probably overkill for what we actually need in school at the moment.

I am running it for one school, I have created a batch file that runs commandreporter with moving date ranges for a set of SIMS reports, they create csv files and I use the PowerBI Gateway application to run a scheduled refresh every night. You could do the same for a MAT by making use of onedrive as the report repository if you wanted to.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it, all the info about linking SIMS to powerBI is here

Unfortunately the school I'm at are very invested in google but I'm hearing rumblings that they might be trying to introduce some O365 stuff so I'm trying to learn it so I'm ready! I think it's definitely worth learning DAX, power query, M etc either way. It has fundamentally changed the way that I use Excel.

Thanks for the links and advice. it's soemthing I've been wanting to do but not sure where to start. Similar to another poster, we are Google based and whilst data studio is ok, it's a bit fiddly in comparison to BI

To be honest a lot of the analysis on the coscole website seem quite basic, if you are willing to do the work yourself you can get some really good analysis in PowerBI.
