Hi

Does anyone know where i can get hold of GCSE 2014 national residuals for each subject? Apparently RAISEOnline use these indicators to work out various calculations but i cannot find the raw data anywhere

Cheers

Morning

I have obtained the National Residuals from my LA, from my understanding LA's sign up to the NCER in which they gain access to national examination data through various information systems (NEXUS, EPAS etc...). I have asked my LA if i can post it online but if they say no i am sure you could contact your LA's Information Team and get them to email it you.

As it is National data they said i am ok to post it.. so here it is

GCSE Subject Residuals 2014

From what i can gather there are only residuals for subjects that are counting in the performance tables for 2014 (so no short course). Be careful using the QAN code as a search as they do not appear to be searchable!

I found it helpful to use the code column in conjunction with this spreadsheet on the DFE - Tables Checking site (which is QAN searchable) Qualifications - Performance Tables 2014 - 2016

Out of interest how many people out there use subject difference residuals?

It's not something we've ever done here but I'd be interested to hear how other schools use this data. With the changes to performance management for teachers I'm wondering whether these national residuals might be quite useful.

Our school uses residuals within the school to see relative performance of individuals across qualifications - made easier by non GCSE quals counting in line with GCSE with regards points.

In our school GCSE History was, within our school environment a negative residual of -1.56, this told the SLT that students performed worse in History on average than they did elsewhere. The national residual for GCSE History is -2.04, so in effect our schools History department had a +0.48 (-1.56 minus -2.04).

Some schools use National residuals to give a "difficulty" to their subject, however where some may say difficulty others would just say nationally they under performed.
