gazskeltz Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Hi, I've been asked to look at our Year 9 student's curriculum to see how their subjects fall into the new Progress 8 Measures (We have a three year KS4). All I need to do is to place their subjects into the DFE buckets but I've been unable to find a definitive list of how to do this. I'd like to calculate it in SIMS but don't mind some excel jiggery-pokery. Can anyone advise if they have tried this out? Thanks in advance Regards Gary
Ecclesbury Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Hi Gary, There was some good discussion about this over on the MIS form: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/130498-progress-8-measure.html This was mainly a discussion about how to set up a SIMS template to do this for you and someone actually posts an example template that you could import to see how it might be done.
mark80 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Have a nosey here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/130498-progress-8-measure.html All students qualify for Progress 8 measure, if they get no qualifications they get 0 points. Having said that are there still restrictions on students who do not have valid KS2 results? Much like in RAISE now, students are excluded from the progress matrix measure if no valid KS2 data
Ecclesbury Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 If you haven't seen it already you can also get the latest technical desicription of how Attainment8/Progress8 will be calculated here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/progress-8-school-performance-measure
gazskeltz Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Cheers! I had found the latest technical guide. I'm having a look through the other thread now - hopefully something to get my teeth into! Regards Gary
gazskeltz Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Hi, Got it and absorbed. Doeas anyone have any idea if the 'National Data' is available anywhere so we can calculate Progress 8? Regards Gary
Seb1780 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 There will not be any national data until 2016; a mock up of 2014 results to the new progress 8 data will be available with next year's RAISE, but until then there is nothing.
ICTLady Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I think you can work out their Attainment 8 score based on whether they have enough subjects in each "bucket". But there's no national benchmark yet so it's not possible to work out how they will get on with Progress 8.
CaterinaAnna Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I've asked my LA Data team if they can produce a mock-up based on last year's results. Not heard back yet, but then I asked within a couple of days of the technical guidance being published, so the chap I spoke to hadn't read it by that point and asked me to send him my spreadsheet! (See other thread about this in this group) Time to nudge, methinks.
