Hi,

 

I've just downloaded our latest CAT Test results from Testwise. In the csv they send they have estimates for KS3 results for each student, which I import to SIMS as (yet more) pieces of data.

 

Historically, all these were sent as 5a,5b,5c etc.

 

This time, they have come down as Decimals - 5.0-5.9.

 

Does anyone have a definitive conversion from Decimal to Sublevel that I can use? I had a look at FFT (where you can display either) and they have, if you look at the underying data, about 7 decimal places!

 

Any help gratefully received.

Though I have come across a few people using different conversions! This is pretty standard, though; a third of a level above or below the "b" - which is the centre of the level.

I would have to agree with NormalDistribution as a 4.x is always a level 4. I don't think you can interpret 4.8 as low level 5 (ie 5c), it has to be high level 4 (4a).

This can get confusing, but I find the best way to convert decimal levels to sub levels is to convert the levels to points.

 

So simply multiply your decimal level by 6 to get a decimalised points score and then use the following look up to convert to a sub level:

 

6C - 36

5A - 34

5B - 32

5C - 30

4A - 28

4B - 26

4C - 24

3A - 22

3B - 20

3C - 18
