On the one hand running a server in a cuboard somewhere is archaic, but it is cheap and ub3r reliable and not reliant on your broadband line which can be big benefits. On the other hand the modern way is cloud everything and I get that. But what i don't get is why "force cloud" in areas where a server in a cuboard would be easier and better? It seems once people decide to go cloud they force themselves to go cloud no matter how unsuitable it is for, for example a local DHCP or local printing needs. Ultimatly in my 24 years expernece, my server room has been an order of magnitude more reliabile than any of the cloud systems that exist to date. 3
mavhc Posted March 18, 2025 Posted March 18, 2025 still more complex, more expensive, less reliable and less scalable than running serverless in free tier Get permission to use credit card, work out how to not go over the limits, get lowest priority serving and support. Not sure how scalable you need to be to serve 1 http request every 10 mins, a raspberry pi is 1000x overkill in reality.

We already have a bnunch of Chromebooks, so ill start testing this out with those. |Found a few posts on Edugeek with other schools already using this.
