How do you... Allow student to use Visual Studio to run executable files?

Computer Science Department would like students to use Visual Studio to create programs as part of KS5 curriculum.

Their projects have a GUI and run as a executable file. When their projects are run, it is instantly blocked by our security platform - Heindal.

 

What work-arounds are you using so that students can use Visual Studio effectively while keeping your network secure.

Issue the students signing certificates that are only trusted by the compsci lab computers, and dial back Heimdal's aggressiveness around novel executables on the compscie lab machines?

We were looking at azure labs for this. It’s being discontinued so back to the drawing board.
